The Ten Tribes of David Stiles
Invitation to the Nelson County Stiles Reunion
You are invited to the 88th Nelson County Kentucky Stiles Reunion. It will be held on Sunday, August 4th in the air-conditioned Union Band Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 5434 Stiles Rd., New Haven, Ky 40051.
It is located on Highway 84 in Nelson County between Howardstown and Gleanings.
Please make plans to attend and bring some type of food to share at our pot-luck lunch at 1:00 p.m. There is always a generous amount of delicious food.
We will have a short business meeting and will be followed by those present sharing pictures and memories of their families and the former reunions. We hope to have a letter from David Allen Stiles who grew up across the road from the church. We welcome others to share history of their family or pictures. Please email me if you are unable to come and share information about your connection.
We began creating a Stiles Family Archive two years ago with the leadership of Palmer and Rose Stiles. If you have family documents or pictures that your children no longer wish to keep you may bring them for the archive. They must have attached names, approximate year, grandparents on both sides of the giver, and the main family they are descendants of: Lewis, Charles, Eunice, Densy, John, Chilion, Rhoda, Abraham, Demas or David Stiles, Jr. We need information about the giver: name, address, phone number and email address. Which of the ten children are you a descendant? Sue Lane, the president of the Reunion, will store the donations in a filing cabinet at her home.
We will collect donations for the small 168-year-old Union Band Baptist Church and the amazing Stiles Cemetery. If you are unable to come, please think about making donations to the church and Stiles Cemetery. We have met at the church since 1938. It has stain glass windows from our ancestors. The Stiles Cemetery is located up the lane to the right of the church. YOUR GENEROSITY is our only income for the Stiles Cemetery other than selling grave plots to continue mowing and upkeep. It takes approximately $2,500.00 yearly. Donations to the Stiles Cemetery can be sent to our treasurer: Bill Shoemaker,180 Gaddie Ford Rd., New Haven, Ky 40051 c/o Stiles Cemetery. You will receive a confirmation of your donation from the president. The cemetery has a granite Monument to David Stiles by the John Fitch D.A.R. of Bardstown, Ky. erected due to his service in the Revolutionary War.
We look forward to hearing from you by email, donation or coming to the reunion. You will enjoy visiting the church and the cemetery behind the church.
